Hospital Development
During the design and development of a new hospital, the detail selection and specification of all the medical and auxiliary equipment often results in a delay for the architect and developer. We have the skills and expertise to assess the design and from that develop detailed equipment schedules and procurement specifications. During this process we interact with the end-users ensuring that their specific requirements are met within the boundaries of the project budget and protocol defined by the project champion. The ability to take a clinical requirement, convert that into a technical specification and then to select the appropriate equipment to fit the specification is ultimately our value proposition.
We have developed a methodology of identifying standard entities per department, speciality and room and populating each entity with standard equipment that would mach the level of service the client wishes to deliver within the facility. In this way we efficiently and accurately complete a first order solution for equipment within a facility. This can then be refined through further evaluation of the intended services as well as specific requirements from clinical staff.
Equipment Procurement
Having a good grasp of the medical equipment market we are able to procure or give procurement advice once a list of items to be purchased has been completed. This involves the evaluation of different proposals, considerations relating to service backup from suppliers as well as a view on potential new technologies that might become available from an alternative supplier. We keep ourselves up to date with developments by attending conferences and trade exhibitions in South Africa, USA and Europe. For in-depth analysis and data, we subscribe to the ECRI database, a leading international Health Technology Research Company.

Operational Clinical Engineering
Having been involved in Clinical Engineering activity on many different levels Rho Consulting is able to assist in the implementing and management of clinical engineering services in the operational healthcare setting in a number of ways:
Health Technology Strategy Development
Irrespective of the level of your Health Technology activity, developing a sound strategy to guide operation decisions is of great importance. We differentiate between three separated but connected strategies: Acquisition, Maintenance and Utilisation Strategy
Health Technology Management
We can tailor our service as a high level support to an existing, balanced and proficient team just needing to step up their service delivery. At the other end of the scale we could asses, set up and manage a full service of in-house and contracted resources, in order to establish an efficient and comprehensive Health Technology solution. Our role would include maintenance management, contractor control, contract management, staff and re source management.
Computerised Maintenance Management
We have extensive experience in the specification, selection, procurement, implementation and management of a computerised maintenance management system for a healthcare facility or system. We can work with you on your pre-selected system or offer advice on a number of systems that we used in the past.

General Consulting
While keeping to our core competence in Health Technology we have experience in what can be called more “general consulting”. Included in this category are:
- Due diligence audits on hospitals, specifically looking at medical technology. This would include assessing the condition and value of the equipment in a specific setting.
- Assessment Audit to determine the current status of a hospital, again with specific reference to the equipment.
- Complete Asset audit as is required for the establishment or verification of a financial asset register. This would include the population of all the relevant data fields to ensure equipment is identified and recorded accurately.
- Assessment on individual devices as is typically required by an insurance assessor or lost adjuster following an insurance claim.
